So a friend of mine emailed me a couple weeks ago with a request. She goes swimming at a very private little pocket beach in Quissett - a section of Falmouth, MA on Cape Cod. There is a poured concrete pier next to it. For 50 years she's been looking at the stuff growing on the side of the concrete and imagining stuff in the cracks and shadows there - cottages huddled next to a steep cliff, and mountains towering over them. .She called to see whether I could see what she imagined and somehow make it come to life in a panoramic photo...The tide was too far in, so I pulled on my galoshes and went back a couple days later and took many successive photos of the side of the pier. ..The night before last the old can't-sleep-because-something's-going-on-in-my-brain thing. What could it be?..There really weren't a lot of options. Obviously it was time to see whether I could realize her vision...I began by creating a panoramic of a selection of the images. From there some cropping was needed and from there and underlayer to affect the overall color of the piece. The underlayer was intensely blue and counteracted the strong sepia tone of the originals. ..I then added and removed sections of the image, using the pen to draw outlines, and the rubber stamp to duplicate or change some area's content...
