From time to time I set up a small studio, really a very simple controlled space consisting of some sort of texture free background and an even light source, to make portraits of small plants I find in my travels. Sometimes I have to make do with a background that's handy, like when shooting a plant on location. In general the studio is not a place I find congenial, however, although I would rather set one up than spend the time removing the environment from some detailed and complicated plant. Even with modern tools, excising a garlic flower is a trial. Easier to just place the plant in front of a blank backdrop.
