About

Emily L. Ferguson began taking photographs in the early 1960s, when her father loaned her one of his Leicas and a light meter.  Initially she worked in black & white for her college newspaper.  Now, she uses Canon digital cameras.

Emily first came to West Falmouth, MA as a child in the summers of the 1940s and ‘50s, but winters her family returned to Philadelphia.  She spent her college years in Wisconsin and Illinois.  In 1980 she returned to Cape Cod permanently and now lives in North Falmouth.

Emily specializes in photographing sailing, and from time to time is also able to shoot landscapes and events around Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts.  In addition to these passions she is drawn to projects which can be made into photographic stories.  She has recorded the moving of a train car from North Falmouth to Woods Hole and the restoration of an antique Herreshoff boat.  (In addition she has a small collection of abstractions which would make perfect 2000 - piece jigsaw puzzles for the masochistic.)  For the last 10 years she has been most interested in shooting traditional wooden sail boats.

In her non-photography life, Emily enjoys a life-long passion for Bach, the French Baroque and Brahms and enjoys gardening and politics as well.
